Hello
I’m a painter and illustrator. My themes predominantly revolve around nature, curious animals, quiet scenes and pretty patterns. I’m personally drawn to a mix of vintage and modern styles, which I try to merge in my work. I hope my paintings reflect back some of the magic and joys of childhood. And ideally, I’d like people to enjoy coming back to a painting over and over to appreciate details they might have missed. I’ve been influenced by travel, architecture and walks around my favorite neighborhoods. I also love interior design. I did some set decorating on independent films before joining my union, Local 829, as a scenic artist. I worked in the film & TV industry for over 20 years, while creating my own art and doing custom wall murals for children’s rooms. More recently, I license art and designs to companies for home decor and paper goods. My work is hand painted using water based acrylics on wood panels, sometimes paper. I sell my original paintings and do custom commissions.
I grew up in Richmond, Va. and I stayed to attend VCU, where I received a BFA in Communication Arts & Design. Thankfully, my parents let me live on campus :) I visited New York City with my mom every year as a teenager. We saw lots of great theater and unforgettable exhibitions, ate at our favorite restaurants and walked all over that iconic city. I fell in love with the energy and mix of cultures. I moved there when I was 23 and received a Masters in Studio Art from NYU. I made some of my closest friends who remain like family to me. After living in Brooklyn for many years, I started to become a little restless. And I wanted to own something with outdoor space. I started looking at Philadelphia, since it’s close to New York, has great museums and restaurants and it’s a wonderful city. The first time I visited West Mt Airy, where I now live, I felt that gut instinct that this was for me. It’s full of pretty gardens reminiscent of quaint English villages and I can walk to several cafes, bars and restaurants. I enjoy exploring this historic city and all the charm it has to offer!
